Pharmacy stock management: batches and expiry dates

Why pharmacy inventory needs batch-level quantities, clear expiry visibility, and a consistent stock rotation routine.

← All guides

Track the batch, not only the product

Two packs of the same medicine may have different batch numbers, quantities, or expiry dates. Batch-level records give staff a clearer view of which units are available and when they expire.

Make expiry dates visible

A useful inventory routine surfaces expired and near-expiry stock before it is accidentally treated like ordinary available stock. ZiadaPOS pharmacy workflows store batch expiry and quantity, and show alerts for expired stock and batches expiring within 30 days.

Rotate stock by earliest expiry

First-expiry-first-out (FEFO) helps make the batch with the earliest expiry the first one allocated, where suitable. The API implements earliest-expiry allocation for available batches.

Keep professional checks with pharmacy staff

Software can help organize batches and record supply details, but staff remain responsible for prescription decisions, medicine suitability, and regulatory requirements. ZiadaPOS provides a prescription supply register linked to sales; it does not automatically validate prescriptions.
